The email we received began: “As we look to set up a business club which reflects and meets the needs of the local business community, we would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes filling in the attached questionnaire.”
That was in November 2006, and local business people sent back sufficient encouraging answers to galvanise into life the Fairford & Lechlade Business Club that we have cherished ever since.
It’s interesting now to look back and see how some of the issues discussed then were the same as now… Should the business Club be about members networking with each other, or about the club interfacing with the world, or about both? On the other hand, there were also Big Issues then that are now lost in the mist of times… For instance, whatever happened to the cracking idea of the footbridge (see the picture) that was to cross the Thames just upstream from Halfpenny Bridge?
In any event, 15 years later, it seems a Good Idea to ask some of the same questions, and some new ones, in order to make sure the club is steaming in the right direction.
And thus a week or two ago, the Steering Group sent out a questionnaire to all members of the club, and the answers are starting to come in. But we are not just interested in the views of members, we would like to know the views of other local businesses, and those of Friends of the F&LBC too.
