Whenever anyone asks me what it’s like to own a golf course; I always reply that it’s an honour and a privilege to be part of a community of members who support, challenge and accept each other warts and all through thick and thin – many of the friendships made in our Junior Section continue for years and people who join the club having moved to the area are very quickly embraced into the social life of the club.
The best parties are very often multigenerational, so our Birthday Bash to celebrate 31 years at Wrag Barn was a 2 ball Texas Scramble open to all the sections; husbands and wives played, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters – the combinations were endless and 112 people took part on Saturday 9th October with an early morning shot gun start. The competition was organised by Alan Kavanagh and Brian Drane who organise the Junior Section and funds were raised for the section through the entry fees, a raffle and an auction.
The winners on the day were:
1st – Wayne Fathers & Paul Stepp – £50 each
2nd – Chris Martin & Peter Soane – £25 each
3rd – Adrian & Clare Drew – £20 each
If you didn’t win anything playing golf there was an opportunity to win a prize in the raffle or bid for one in the auction. The wife of one of our members thinks he always wins, as he buys something in the auction and proudly displays it at home as a winning prize!
In the end £1600.00 was raised for our Junior Section and #ourjuniorsareawesome.
