Despite the significant snow flurries throughout the day of the set up of the event, and the cancellation of Cirencester’s Christmas lights switch on because of the storm warnings for Storm Arwen, Lechlade’s Christmas lights switch on event went ahead on Saturday 27th November and was a great success.
The joint Town Council and Lions organising committee organised a range of food stalls and a stage on which there was entertainment, including Highworth Silver Band and St Lawrence School Choir. There was a huge participation in the illuminated lantern parade for children and sizeable crowd of people enjoyed the event and the late night shopping in many of the shops in Lechlade.
The evening was rounded off by the lights switch on and the arrival of Mr and Mrs Claus in their sleigh who handed out goody bags to the children from their grotto.
