On a bright, cold morning in mid-March, 16 people from a range of local businesses and organisations took part in a fire awareness training session. Most of the attendees were Business Club members, some hadn’t yet joined. After a fantastic breakfast at the Riverside Inn Lechlade, Joe from Swan Fire UK talked the group through the causes of fire and how to prevent them. Then came the exciting bit, everyone on the course walked from the Riverside through to the adjoining Lechlade Marina where they had a go at using a range of different types of fire extinguishers on a live fire. Joe explained how different types of extinguishers are used for different types of fires and gave everyone the confidence to use an extinguisher.
This fire awareness training course is hopefully the first of a few courses the Steering Group of the Fairford & Lechlade Business Club hope to put on, to provide real benefits to its members, especially aimed at the small businesses who do not have written health and safety plans or trained fire marshals, but know that they would like professionally delivered awareness training. Please let the Club know what you would be interested in and keep an eye out for the courses we hope to arrange along with regular club meetings and networking – admin@flbc.org.uk
