As weather patterns seem to be becoming more extreme and unpredictable the risk of your business premises or home flooding is significantly increasing. Even if you are not near one of the many rivers or streams in our area, there are also very real risks of flooding from rainfall overwhelming drains or pouring down a drive or path into your property.
Having had personal experience of our office and workshop being flooded in January 2024 I cannot emphasise strongly enough my advice to read some of the guidance, draw up a plan and be prepared.
Gloucestershire County Council has prepared online guidance that can be found at https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/flood-guide/
Guidance from the Environment Agency can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/preparing-your-business-for-flooding
If you are at risk of flooding from streams or rivers please do sign up for flood alerts from the Environment Agency at https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings
Many towns and villages have volunteer flood wardens, find out from your parish council who your flood warden is for more guidance and perhaps volunteer to help out too. It’s not a big time commitment but will do a lot for your community and also give you a huge amount of guidance to use for your own property.
